Dr. Ashley Oakes graduated from The University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a veterinary dentistry residency in Baton Rouge, LA and is Board Certified by the American Veterinary Dental College. 

Dr. Oakes received the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in 1989. In 1993 she completed a three-year veterinary dentistry residency program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College in 1994. While in Louisiana, she held the position of Clinical Instructor of Veterinary Dentistry at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, and practiced veterinary dentistry and oral surgery in a private practice dental referral & specialty clinic. After completing her residency program, she was recruited to Boulder, Colorado to set up a  veterinary dental and oral surgery specialty service for a nine veterinarian AAHA certified small animal hospital. 

Dr. Oakes later moved to the Tampa Bay area with her husband, Dr. Matt Oakes, in 1995 where she opened the first veterinary dental and oral surgery referral and specialty practice along the west coast of Florida.  She enjoys teaching dentistry and lectures both nationally and locally to veterinarians.  Dr. Oakes has been active in the AVDC and has chaired the exam, credentials, training support and public relations committees over the years. She has authored journal articles and textbook chapters as well.

When she is not practicing veterinary medicine she enjoys water sports.  Her favorites are swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding.  She also likes gardening and travels to visit with her parents as well as her son and daughter who are both in college.  Her pets currently consist of 3 dogs, chickens, tortoises, and freshwater fish.
